Frequently Asked Questions

Questions about membership eligibility and the membership commitments are answered below. For other questions, please contact us directly at contact@aumath.org.

I don't want to use AI. Can I join the AUM?

You are welcome to join and we greatly appreciate your support! Unlike others, we are not trying to exclude people whether they want to use AI or not. However, please keep in mind that our current goal is still to navigate a solution where humans can coexist with AI in mathematics.

I am not affiliated with an academic institution at the moment but I work in mathematics. Can I join the AUM?

Yes! We are not a professional organization, unlike some other organizations out there. Membership is always open to everyone interested.

I am an undergraduate student interested in mathematics. Can I join the AUM?

Yes! Even high school students, or students younger than that, or non-professional mathematics enjoyer. All is welcome. Abolishing gatekeeping is one of our main goals.

I am not sure how to interpret the three commitments, but I am interested in joining. Can you elaborate on their meaning?

The membership commitments are, to some extent, up to individual interpretation. They should be interpreted as expressions of principle rather than precise legal agreements. We welcome a diversity of opinions and hope members will thoughtfully discuss their points of view with one another.
